Há algum tempo atrás, tive a oportunidade de participar do 6º FGSL, Fórum Goiano de Software Livre. Na ocasião, além de outras palestras, falei sobre a criação de um time local, com o intuito de incentivar a criação do Ubuntu-br-go. A experiência foi muito boa, pois pude conhecer pessoas legais e interessadas em divulgar o software livre por lá.

Fico feliz em saber que o pessoal está animado, e se organizando! Abaixo segue uma foto do encontro realizado pra definir algumas metas e ações. E vamos que vamos!

Some time ago, I had the opportunity to participate on the 6º FGSL (The Open Source Forum of Goiás). Among other things, I spoke  about how to create a localteam, aiming to stimulate the creation of their own local team (I live in Minas Gerais, Goiás is other Brazilian state). It was an great experience, as  I met some nice people, motivated to spread the open source culture all over the state.

I am very happy to know that they are organizing the local team! On the picture, you can see the meeting they did to set some goals and actions. Way to go, friends!

I know this is off-topic, but authorities are trying hard with no success to reach the family. Maybe we can help!

“Jie Wu”, Canadian / Korean, 27 years old, died in a car crash, sunday, 25/10/2009, nearby Teófilo Otoni, Minas Gerais (my city of birth). Her passport has a number for emergency, but nobody answer.

She was Traveling from Salvador-BA to Rio de Janeiro-RJ when the bus crashed. 10 death.

Authorities are trying to find her family, but no success so far.

Are you going to Latinoware 2009? Do you want to learn more about the  Ubuntu GNU/Linux? Or even hang out with cool guys like you from your favorite linux distro?

Então, neste final de semana tivemos o 1º FSL-BH (Festival de Software Livre de Belo Horizonte), organizado pelo Ubuntu, Uai e pelo KDE-MG. O evento superou nossas expectativas! O nível das palestras foi muito bom! Tivemos diversos participantes da nossa cidade e cidades vizinhas e do interior. Tivemos ainda participantes / palestrantes de Porto Alegre, Salvador e São Paulo (obrigado Camila Ayres, Thomás e Eduardo Otubo), que vieram exclusivamente para o evento! Foram cerca de 400 participantes!

O evento aconteceu na ESP-MG (Escola de Saúde Pública de Minas Gerais), autarquia pública que usa e incentiva o uso do Software Livre.

Para um primeiro evento, foi um sucesso completo! Agora, que venha o segundo! Muito obrigado à todas as pessoas que foram e nos ajudaram a organizar!

So, this weekend we had the 1º FSL-BH (Belo Horizonte’s Open Source Festival), organized by Ubuntu, Uai (our Ubuntu local state team) and KDE-MG (our KDE local state team). The event was way beyond our expectations. The level of the talks was impressing! We had a lot of attendees from our city, surrounding areas and from the country side of our state! We also had attendees / speakers from Porto Alegre, Salvador and São Paulo (thank you Camila Ayres, Thomás and Eduardo Otubo), that came only for our event! We had about 400 attendees!

The event was held on ESP-MG (Public Health School), a public institution that not only have 99% of their IT structure based on open source, but also support and estimulate the open source in our state.

For a first time event, we can say it was a complete success! Now, let’s prepare for the incoming second one! Thank you to everybody that went or helped us organizing this event!

Since she knows about the whole Open Source thing, and uses Ubuntu since 2006, I told her about this contest. She start sending her photos right away! She was excited to help the Ubuntu Project with what she can, and have her photos used all over the world!

Last week, she was VERY HAPPY to to have 5  photos selected to the Ubuntu Artwork Karmic Release Shortlist! Now let’s cheer to have at least one of them included on Karmic release!

That’s something I could never picture: my mother contributing to our beloved community! Way to go, Mom!

Acabo de receber a confirmação da minha presença no 6º Fórum Goiano de Software Livre, evento realizado pela ASL-GO. Farei 3 palestras: “Asterisk no Ubuntu”, “Software Livre, uma revolução que não vai passar na TV!” e “Ubuntu em Goiás! Criando a comunidade Goiana de Usuários Ubuntu.”

Isso mesmo! No dia 26 de Setembro de 2009, numa parceria inédita (sempre quis falar assim!) entre o Ubuntu, Uai!, KDE-MG e Escola de Saúde Pública de Minas Gerais (ESP-MG), será realizado o Festival de Software Livre, em Belo Horizonte.

A programação está recheada de muita coisa boa! As inscrições são gratuitas, limitadas e já estão abertas!

É interessante notar que o evento será realizado na ESP-MG, Escola de Saúde Pública de Minas Gerais, órgão público que não só usa como apóia e incentiva o uso de software livre.

As some of you may know, we had the FISL 10 in Porto Alegre, here in Brazil. As always, it was a great event with a lot of good speaks and crazy people hanging out! If you had never been there, I really advise you to make an effort to go for it!

This year we had a very important visitor: The President Lula! He walked along all the places of the event, including the User’s Group and commercial area. Obama was right! He is the guy!

Of course the brave Ubuntu Brazil Community was there, shaking up the event and making Ubuntu Linux present. We also managed to give Lula a “world famous” Ubuntu-BR T-shirt (check out the video!)

Thanks to everybody that was there, supporting the Ubuntu-br community! Now let’s work hard, and on the meanwhile, prepare for Latinoware!

Durante escavações no estado de São Paulo, arqueólogos descobriram, a 100 m de profundidade, vestígios de fios de cobre que datavam do ano 1000. Os paulistas concluíram que seus antepassados já dispunham de uma rede telefônica naquela época!

Os cariocas, para não ficarem para trás, escavaram também seu subsolo, encontrando restos de fibras ópticas a 200 m de profundidade. Após minuciosas análises, concluíram que elas tinham 2.000 anos de idade. Os cariocas concluíram, triunfantes, que seus antepassados já dispunham de uma rede digital a base de fibra óptica quando Jesus Nasceu!

Uma semana depois, em Belo Horizonte , foi publicado o seguinte anúncio: “Após escavações arqueológicas no subsolo de Contagem, Betim, Barbacena, Formiga, Juiz de Fora, Varginha, Poços de Caldas, Itajubá, Cataguases, Araxá, Lagoa Dourada , São João del Rei, Uberlândia, Araguari, Uberaba, Santo Antonio do Monte, Teófilo Otoni, Divinópolis, Pará de Minas, Vazante, Ituiutaba, São Pedro do Suaçuí, Pitangui, Patos de Minas, Patrocínio, Viçosa, Ponte Nova, Timóteo, Inhapim, Raul Soares, Ouro Preto, Florestal, Muzambinho e diversas outras cidades mineiras, até uma profundidade de 500 metros, os cientistas mineiros não encontraram absolutamente nada.”

Assim se conclui que os Mineiros já dispunham, há 5.000 anos, de uma rede de comunicações sem-fio: wireless!

É por isso que se pronuncia “uai”reless… Rá!

Domingo viajo a trabalho para Curitiba. Como sei que existem diversos Ubunteiros e Ubunteiras em Ctba, convoco a quem interessar para confraternização do lançamento do Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 (ou qualquer outro motivo que você queira, afinal pra tomar cerveja e jogar conversa fora, o motivo é o de menos!)

Vou estar em Curitiba nos dias 27/04 a 30/04.
